Now it’s often joked girls need their beauty sleep, but would it be truly a beauty sleep without a trusty sleep eye mask to go with it? The reason they go hand in hand is because of the distinctive benefit to wearing an eye mask.
That benefit is that when light is blocked, your body detects total darkness and begins to produce melatonin, which is the hormone that naturally eases you into beauty sleep.
Which Girl’s Eye Mask Do You Choose?
Well that depends entirely on what you’re going to use it for, as the materials and shape varies massively among sleep eye masks.
What do we mean by that?
Well if you’re a girl who has long eye lashes or uses fake eye lashes, you should use a contoured eye mask.
The reason being, a contoured girl’s sleep mask will often have dome shapes that engulf the eyes, which allows your eyes to move freely without the lashes being touched or crushed by the sleep mask.
This type of eye mask is the ideal if you’ve done your eyelashes, but just want to rest your eyes for a few moments before going out.
What Eye Mask Material Should Girls Pick?
The next option to consider when selecting a girl’s eye mask for sleeping is the material, why is this important? Well different materials have different benefits.
Girls Cotton Eye Masks
Cotton sleep masks are frequent among cheaper eye masks, as they do a tremendous job blocking light and soaking up sweat during the night.
Unfortunately that does come with a downside.
By soaking up sweat night in, night out, after a week’s use the eye mask can become slightly smelly and unhygienic. This can be easily solved by throwing it in the washing machine, but they do tend to lose their colour and shape once washed.
So we would recommend avoiding cotton eye masks if you plan to use them long term.
Girls Polyester Eye Masks
Polyester sleeping masks for girls are ultra-lightweight, making them perfect for those that don’t like the feeling of pressure on the eyes, plus they’re extremely durable.
A big deciding factor for many girls is whether the eye mask feels comfy and delicate on the skin. Unfortunately if that is a feeling you’re seeking, we wouldn’t recommend polyester sleep masks, as they simply don’t deliver.
Polyester eye masks are great for a cheap occasional use, but for prolonged use we recommend looking towards silk eye masks.
Girls Silk Eye Masks
Silk eye masks are often seen as the top tier of sleep masks for girls, and rightly so. Silk eye masks are extremely breathable, delicately soft on the skin and provide other benefits.
One of the key benefits for girls, is that silk eye masks actually fight the build-up of wrinkles.
This is because silk is a naturally breathable material which aids moisture retention within the skin, which is essential for protecting collagen.
Furthermore silk houses natural proteins leading to an increase in epidermal cell hydration. This protects the fluidity of collagen, which is responsible for the flexibility within the skin.
Finally silk eye masks are anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic, which is perfect for girls with sensitive or irritable skin.
To summarise we recommend cotton/polyester sleep masks for short term use and silk eye masks for prolonged use.
